For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this circa 2003 Montblanc Doué LeGrand Solitaire Meisterstück Fountain Pen (Model 146), presented Mint in the Box and fitted with an 18K bi-color Fine nib. Crafted with Montblanc’s signature black precious resin barrel and a beautifully finished lined sterling silver cap, this LeGrand Solitaire represents one of Montblanc’s most elegant and enduring luxury designs.
*NOTE: It is very difficult to photograph these sterling cap pens. The black lines on the pen is "bounce-back" reflection from the black body of my camera. I can, with complete certainly, tell you this pen is in Mint condition without any discoloration.
The pen has been professionally gone through, including lubrication of the piston filler, resealed, and reassembly, and is prefect factory working order. It is guaranteed authentic and would confidently grade in Mint condition. During my inspection, I did not find any traces of ink and I believe the Montblanc has never been inked or dipped.
The cap and barrel are outstanding, showing no chips, cracks, dings, dents, repairs, or wear of any kind. The threaded cap secures firmly and precisely to the barrel. The sterling silver cap is fitted with a gold-filled clip and cap band, both of which have been polished bright with no brassing or loss of finish. The clip ring is stamped “GERMANY METAL2” along with the serial number MG112793, while the cap band is marked “MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK.” The side of the cap bears the “925 StØD” hallmark, confirming sterling silver construction.
The ink-view window is water-clear, allowing easy monitoring of ink levels—an important detail for daily writers and collectors alike. There are no monograms or personalizations anywhere on the pen. Overall dimensions are 5 3/4 inches capped, 6 1/4 inches posted, with a solid yet perfectly balanced weight of 1.33 ounces.
This pen features Montblanc’s brass piston filling system, which has been carefully disassembled, cleaned, resealed, and tested. The piston operates smoothly and efficiently, filling exactly as originally designed.
At the heart of this exceptional writing instrument is Montblanc's beautifully engraved 18K bi-color gold Fine nib. The iridium tipping measures approximately .58mm when using digital calipers. Consistent with its Never Inked status, the nib has never been filled or dip-tested, remaining exactly as it left the Montblanc factory for the next discerning collector.
