Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this early Circa 1902 Waterman #12 Mottled Hard Rubber Eyedropper Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. Scarce Waterman model to find, especially in this type of excellent condition.

Hand cleaned the NIB and feed. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel, cap, and section with mineral oil. Cleaned the outside of the cap and barrel with mineral oil and the hard rubber displays a nice mottled color (red & black) with vibrant coloring.

This fountain pen is made from mottled (red and black) hard rubber. This is an Eyedropper Fountain Pen and that means you would unscrew the section to add the ink via an eyedropper and the cap is a slip type cap always securing to the barrel. The barrel has clean and crisp imprints at the center that read, "WATERMAN'S IDEAL GLOBE LOGO FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y. PAT'D FEB 12 & NOV 4, 1884 U.S.A.". The Cap imprint has a clean and crisp imprint that reads, "PAT'D MAY 24, 1898". The butt end of the fountain pen has the #12 imprint. There are no monograms to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks, or repairs to the hard rubber - there is a marring mark in the section that is tough to photograph but point out for clarity sake. This Waterman #12 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 3/4" posted.

The Waterman IDEAL New York NIB is a #2 Nib with the large "No. 2" imprint (early nib). The actual tip of the Waterman 14K NIB measures .49mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a double extra-fine line measuring .25mm and will flex to a double broad stroke at 1.27mm with medium to firm pressure when being measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

This Mottled Waterman #12 is a tough model to acquire as this was early circa 1902 or early manufacturing date pen. This Waterman is extremely clean and would consider it collector worthy and one of the top pens in one's collection. I would consider this Waterman #12 to easily grade in Excellent Condition. It is ready to write or just add to your writing arsenal collection
