For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored Circa 1920 Waterman #472 1/2 Black Hard Rubber with Sterling Silver Pansy Panel Overlay Eyedropper Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. Such an exceptional fountain pen in terms of condition and writing.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Hand polished the Sterling Silver Waterman Clip-Cap Clip, Sterling Cap, Sterling Barrel and Waterman 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with Sterling Silver Overlay in what is known as the Pansy Panel pattern. The Sterling Silver overlay is gorgeous displaying gorgeous hand engraved design. The Sterling Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap displays display absolutely no wear. All Sterling Silver overlay has been polished to shine brightly. The cap and barrel are stamped, "WATERMAN'S STERLING MADE IN U.S.A.". The butt end of the fountain pen has imprint model number "472 1/2". The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There is a monogram in the cartouche area with initials, "F.W.P.". There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber or Sterling Silver overlay. The flat top of the cap does display some minor dings. This Waterman #472 1/2 measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.

This Waterman Fountain Pen is an Eyedropper Fill type. The section unscrews and one fills the barrel with ink and attached the section back to the barrel for use. It is a simple designed filling system and works as it should with ink.

This Waterman has a great #2 WATERMAN IDEAL Flex Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .64mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .46mm with light pressure and flexes to a triple broad stroke of 1.91mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This antique Waterman #472 1/2 Sterling Pansy Panel Fountain Pen is not an easy example to find clean. The hand engraving is gorgeous and one of the harder models to acquire. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Very Fine to Excellent condition. A fabulous example to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
