For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1922 Sheaffer #2 Hand Engraved Sterling Silver Flat Top Fountain Pen, Model 26PC, with extremely scarce Sheaffer #2 Flexible Nib. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new silicone sac. Hand polished the Sterling Silver Cap, Barrel, Lever Arm, and 14K Sheaffer NIB. This Sheaffer Flat Top is the Sterling "Giftie Model 26PC shown in the 1922 Catalog" Flat Top Fountain Pen which are difficult pens to source. The cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. The Sterling Cap displays no wear to the material and displays less than normal wear for the age of this pen. The barrel is in excellent condition with no wear to the sterling overlay. All the Sterling Silver overlay has been polished to shine brightly once again. The fountain pen is free of any monograms or personalizations. This Sheaffer #2 Flat Top Fountain Pen measures 5" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.
I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling system is working as it was designed to.
Here is where this Sheaffer Fountain Pen gets interesting. Typically, we rarely find Sheaffer nibs that are nothing less stiff as a nail when writing with it. This Sheaffer has a #2 Flexible Nib that ranges from a Fine to Double Broad-line variation and considered a very scarce nib in Sheaffer collector markets. The actual iridium tip on this Sheaffer Nib has a medium point measuring roughly .69mm when measured with digital calipers. In the writing sample provided, the fine line measures at .46mm and will flex to a double broad stroke measuring 1.69mm with medium to firm pressure when I measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was performed by dipping the Nib in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.
The Sheaffer Sterling Overlay Fountain Pen pattern is considered extremely desirable and extremely difficult to acquire. Rarely do we find Sheaffer nibs that flex as this one does. This Sheaffer Slotted Fountain Pen will grade in the Very Fine to Excellent Condition area. These are clearly very scarce pens and high-cachet on collector lists. Certainly, this one would be a great addition to one's writing arsenal collection!
