For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored Circa 1922 Waterman #55 Cardinal Red Hard Rubber Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil - the inside of the cap is amazingly clean. Cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new silicone sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Clip-Cap Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #5 Fully Flexible NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Cardinal Red color with no cracks which are almost impossible to find. The coloring is gorgeous displaying consistent red coloring. The lever is crisp and clean with "IDEAL" on the lever easily seen with the naked eye. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap displays only slight minor wear of the Gold Filled material on the high point of the ball. The gold-filled cap banding is also in very good condition with minimal wear to the top edge of the cap banding. This Waterman 55 barrel has the older, circa 1922 imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "PAT'D 1884 MAY 23 1899 WATERMAN'S FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y. U.S.A. PAT'D MAY 23, 1899 & AUG 3, 1903 U.S.A". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "55" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #55 measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.

This Waterman has a fully flexible #5 WATERMAN IDEAL Nib that is a pleasure to write with. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .71mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .54mm on the horizontal strokes and flex up to a triple broad+ line of 2.30mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This antique Waterman #55 Cardinal Red Hard Rubber Fountain Pen is not an easy example to find clean. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in excellent condition. This is a collector grade fountain pen with amazing, consistent coloring from the cap to the barrel. This Waterman #55 Cardinal Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition or add it to your writing arsenal collection.
