For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Extremely Rare Restored Circa 1931 Sheaffer Oversize Balance Fountain Pen in the Marine Green Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. The rarity exists in this Sheaffer Oversize Balance being a Non-White Dot with relatively few examples in existence compared to the White Dot Oversize Balance.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, NS section. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new silicone sac in order to preserve the color. Hand polished the Gold Fill Sheaffer Clip, Cap Banding, and 14K Gold NIB. I also cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen. The color of the Marine Green is excellent.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap is a Non-White Dot model with Gold Filled Sheaffer Clip. The Sheaffer Clip displays very minor wear to the high-point of the ball on the clip. The Cap Banding is in excellent condition with no wear of the gold-filled banding. The Gold Filled Lever is in perfect condition with no wear of the gold fill. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWA U.S.A. PAT. D-78,795". Collector Alert: This is a Non-White Dot Sheaffer which makes the fountain pen a scarce example that is not often available. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. This Oversized Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should.

This Sheaffer has the proper 5-30 14K NIB - these 5-30 Nibs were found in Non-White Dot Oversize Balance Fountain Pens in the early 1930s (31,32, 33) then changed to FeatherTouch 7 and sometimes FeatherTouch 8 around 1934. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .80mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine to medium stroke/line that varies between .54mm to .90mm when measured with digital calipers. I have to point out that this Sheaffer Nib writes smoothly for such a firm nib. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is a very Rare Oversize Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen due to it being a Non-White Dot model on an Oversize example. Certainly acquiring this scarce Non-White Dot Oversize example will be a prize for the new owner. I would grade the color and condition of this pen to be in Very Fine to Excellent Condition. This fountain pen is collector grade and is ready to write with or just add to writing arsenal collection.
