For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Uncommon Restored Circa 1934 Gold Medal "Comrade" Fountain Pen in the Marbled Black and Burgundy celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

The Gold Medal brand is a "sub-brand of the National Pen Products Co. The National Pen Products Co was a manufacturer of medium to high-grade fountain pens. The Comrade fountain pen was an icon of the Gold Medal brand due to the shape and the curved clip. An uncommon fountain pen style and this one really speaks volumes to the design, quality of material used, and exceptional condition it is in.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel to bring back the vibrancy of the material and to protect the celluloid. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new a rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Clip, Gold Filled Lever, along with the Gold Medal 14K NIB.

This fountain pen is made from a black and burgundy marbled celluloid that displays no chips, nicks, cracks, or repairs. The coloring is gorgeous displaying a consistent burgundy and black color throughout - this is a very clean pen. The Gold Filled trim has been well cared for with no wear to the clip, cap banding, or lever arm. The barrel has the imprint at the center of the barrel that is a tad light but reads, "NATIONAL PEN PRODUCTS CO GOLD MEDAL PEN CHICAGO, ILL". The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. This Gold Medal Comrade Fountain Pen measures 5 1/4" in length capped and 5 3/4" posted.

The lever has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.

This Gold Medal Comrade has a 14K Nib that writes smoothly. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .78mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .71mm and will flex to a triple broad line of 1.81mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The nib writes exceptionally smooth and is an enjoyable experience. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Art Deco Gold Medal Comrade Fountain Pen displays a gorgeous design with lovely coloring. The condition of this fountain pen would grade in Excellent condition. This style is very uncommon that collector's clamor for. It is in ready to write condition or add it to your writing arsenal collection.
