Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Rare Restored Circa 1937 to 1941 Sheaffer Crest Lifetime White Dot Lever Fill Fountain Pen in the Silver Pearl Striated Celluloid with Sterling Silver Cap. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Collector Note: This Sheaffer Crest was produced from 1937 to 1941. The open nib on the pen is the giveaway. It is an early example of the Crest is extremely rare for Sheaffer Crests due to the Sterling Cap and Silver Striated Barrel. These Sterling Crest Fountain Pens rarely come up for sale and are very desirable

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the old sac with a new rubber sac. Hand polished the Sterling Silver Cap and 14K Gold 2-Tone NIB. I also cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no dings, dents, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has a gorgeous alternating 6 lines then 2 line pattern in Sterling - the cap has no dings or dents but does display some minor scratching that commensurates with age. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWA, U.S.A. PATENTED IN U.S.A. 1375". The section transparency is highly visulated - it is water clear with mild ambering! There are two factory holes in the backside of the section. I do not know the reason for them but the pen functions like one would expect. There is a monogram to the cartouche that displays the initials, "LD". The "White-Dot" is placed at the center of the barrel. This Sheaffer Crest Fountain Pen measures 5 1/4" in length capped and 6" posted.

I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills and dispenses as it should.

This Sheaffer has the gorgeous Two-toned Open 14K NIB. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has an extra-fine/fine point measuring roughly .44mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with an extra-fine to fine stroke/line measuring between .43mm to .52mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

This is an extremely rare Sheaffer Crest Fountain Pen with the Sterling Cap in the proper Silver Striated Pearl Celluloid that would grade in Very Fine Condition. It was the first Sheaffer pen with a metal cap and celluloid body and was a precursor to later metal cap / plastic body pens such as the Parker 51. This model was intended as a high line model, initially offered with a gold-filled cap and either a black or golden brown striated body or a sterling silver cap and a gray pearl body, which we have here. Certainly, this fountain pen is collector grade and this fine writing instrument is ready to write with or just add to your writing arsenal collection.

Please review all my images as they are part of the description. If you have any questions, please ask. I have other restored fountain pens for sale, if you have the time, please look through my listings.
