Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1941 Esterbrook Fountain Pen in the Cracked Ice Blue Green Celluloid with GREGG 1555 Fine Firm Nib. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in excellent condition showing no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always secures tightly to the barrel. There is an ever so slightly discoloration under the cap to the barrel thread area. The cap has the Stainless Clip that displays no wear. The stainless cap banding displays no brassing either. There are no personalizations or monograms to either the cap or barrel. The color on this Esterbrook is known as Blue Green - Never cataloged by Esterbrook, but a well-known pattern. This Esterbrook measures 4 3/4" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB and feed unit. Hand cleaned the inside of the cap, barrel, and section. Hand polished the stainless trim and #1555 GREGG NIB. I have Cleaned, Buffed, Polished and Waxed the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of fountain pen. The barrel is clearly stamped with the "R. ESTERBROOK CO MADE IN U.S.A.".

This Esterbrook has a paddle lever filling system. The lever filler is in working condition as I have tested with water. I have installed a new silicone sac to help prevent any additional discoloration and to preserve the pen.

The Esterbrook NIB is a #1555 GREGG - which is known as a Fine-Firm nib. The NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .58mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample this nib writes very consistently with a .58mm to .63mm fine/medium line when I measured with digital calipers. The Nib writes smoothly. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Esterbrook Cracked Ice model is very desirable - a scarce variant within the Esterbrook models that collectors strive to own. I would grade this Esterbrook to be in Excellent+ Condition. It is a classic collectible fountain pen that would be a perfect addition to your fine writing arsenal collection.
