This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs with the cap always securing to the barrel. The cap has the Chrome Clip and Cap Banding that display in perfect condition. The barrel is stamped, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWN U.S.A., MADE IN U.S.A.". There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. There is no brassing or wear to the cap or the chrome clip and cap banding. This Sheaffer Cadet Fountain Pen measures 5 1/4" in length capped and 5 7/8" posted. The barrel is still chalk marked with, "CADET MED".
This Sheaffer Pen has been disassembled, cleaned, and inspected for any defects before reassembling. The Touchdown Filling System has been restored and we installed a new rubber sac and o-ring, - all been replaced with correct reproduction parts. The Touchdown filling system draws ink as it should.
This Sheaffer Alloy Nib has a Sheaffer designated SM1 (SEMI-FLEXIBLE MEDIUM) point measuring roughly .64mm when measuring with digital calipers. I have not written with this Sheaffer Cadet as I wanted to keep it in Mint for the next collector.
Cadet fountain pens are inexpensive school pens that Sheaffer introduced in the late 1950s. Though they do not have a snorkel, only the tip of the nib needs to be submersed in ink to fill the pen, what Sheaffer ads of the day referred to as “Tipdip” filling. Though the pens are inexpensive, they are of very good quality. They are a pleasure to write with, and they come in various pastel colors that were popular in the fifties and sixties.
This Sheaffer Cadet Fountain Pen is Vermillion is going to be the toughest color to acquire in the Cadet series. This Sheaffer Cadet is in ready-to-write condition or just add to your writing arsenal collection. I would consider this Sheaffer Cadet Fountain Pen in Vermillion to grade Mint Condition.
