For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Spectacular Circa 1905 Paul E. Wirt Gold Filled Snail Pattern Taper Cap Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. This Wirt condition is going to rival some of the best examples ever seen.

Hand cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel along with the 14K Wirt No. 2 Nib.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with Gold Filled Snail Pattern Overlay which is absolutely incredible and in Excellent condition. The Wirt Taper Cap displays absolutely no wear with a perfectly crisp imprint that reads, "PAUL E. WIRT PAT. FEB. 83". All the Gold-filled trim has been polished to shine brightly. The Taper Cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber or the gold-filled overlay - this Snail pattern and hard rubber are in excellent+ condition with much less to normal wear and usage. This Wirt measures 5 3/4" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted.

This Wirt Taper Cap Fountain Pen is an Eyedropper Fill type. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and work as it was originally intended to.

The Paul E. Wirt Fountain Pen has a smooth No. 2 Wirt Nib that is a proper style nib for this pen. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .50mm when measured with digital calipers - a fine nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine to double broad stroke/line. The fine line measures roughly .46mm and will flex to a double broad stroke/line of 1.33mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This Wirt Taper Cap Fountain Pen with Snail Pattern is in impeccable condition. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Excellent to Near Mint condition. If you are a collector of these types of Taper Cap Overlay Fountain Pen then I would care to guess you will be very pleased with this one in terms of condition. This is a near mint example to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
