I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized sac. Hand polished the Waterman Ideal 18K Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and Ideal lever box assembly along with the flexible Ideal 14K #4 NIB.
This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Blue-Green Ripple pattern. The fountain barrel has a strong, clean imprint on the side of the barrel that, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN RIPPLE". The butt end of the fountain pen displays a strong 94 imprint. The 18K Gold Filled Waterman Ideal Clip display some minor wear on the ball of the clip and on the "N & S" on the lettering for the clip. The cap banding, and Lever Box Assembly do not display any wear or brassing - overall the Gold Filled Trim is in fantastic condition!
There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber and the color displays wonderfully for its age. I will point out that underneath the cap banding , inside the cap, displays a tiny clip out of the ebonite but the cap banding covers this (see image 8). This Waterman 94 measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 1/2" posted.
The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever is crisp and clean, no brassing. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it was intended to.
The NIB on this Waterman is 14K is a proper #4 size. The NIB writes with an extra-fine point and can flex up to a triple broad stroke - it does have great flexibility and responsiveness. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K #4 Ideal NIB, it measures at .80mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra fine line measuring roughly .42mm with very light pressure on the horizontal strokes and flexes up to a triple broad stroke+ of 2.28mm with medium to firm pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This is antique Waterman's Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using this wonderful flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain to grade in Very Fine condition and certainly would be a fine writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection.
