Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this very rare Restored Circa 1928 Waterman 94 Rose Ripple Fountain Pen with 18K Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized silicone sac. Hand polished the Waterman Ideal 18K Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and Ideal lever box assembly along with the flexible Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the scarce Rose Ripple pattern. The color of the rose ripple ebonite is very clean and displays extremely well. The fountain barrel has a very light imprint, "WATERMAN'S REG US IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN RIPPLE". The butt end of the fountain pen displays a strong 94 imprint. The 18K Gold Filled Waterman Ideal Clip shows a touch of wear on the ball of the clip and on the right edge of the clip by the lower rivet. The IDEAL lever assembly is clean with just a hint of wearing to the edging of the Globe portion of the lever and a touch on the arm of the lever - very minor.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks, repairs to the hard rubber, and the color displays vibrantly - an extremely clean rose ripple pen. This Waterman measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted. This is the largest Waterman Rose Ripple Fountain Pen model that was produced.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it was intended to.

The NIB on this Waterman is a 14K - #4 size. The NIB writes with an extra-fine point and can flex up to a triple broad stroke - it does have great flexibility and responsiveness. When measuring the actual tip of the 14K #2 Ideal NIB, it measures at .60mm with digital calipers - a medium point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an extra-fine line measuring roughly .39mm with very light pressure on the horizontal strokes and flexes up to a triple broad stroke 1.87mm with firm to medium pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Waterman Rose Ripple Fountain Pens in any size are extremely scarce to acquire. This is Circa 1928 Waterman Rose Ripple #94 Fountain Pen is a rare example free from any cracks or damage to the ebonite as the material was known to be fragile. I would consider this fountain to grade in very fine condition and certainly would be a fine writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection.
