For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Lovely Restored Circa 1936 Sheaffer Oversize Balance Fountain Pen in the Black & Pearl Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.
I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Fill Sheaffer Clip, Cap Banding, and 14K Gold NIB. I also cleaned, buffed, polished, and waxed the barrel, cap, and blind cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen. The color of the pearl is spectacular - there is no discoloration to the celluloid and in excellent condition.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the White Dot with Gold Filled Sheaffer Clip that displays absolutely no wear - perfect condition. The Cap Banding does display some wear along the lower edge of the gold filled banding. The Gold Filled Lever is in perfect condition with no wear of the gold fill. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. FORT MADISON, IOWA U.S.A. PATENTED IN U.S.A.". There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. This Oversized Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.
I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. Notice the ink-view window in the section - it is water clear!
Here is the scarce part of this Sheaffer - a 14K Full Flex Nib ranging from a fine (.51mm) to triple broad (2.06mm) line when I measured with digital calipers. This Sheaffer has the LIFETIME 14K NIB with Serial Number 4626039. The actual writing portion, the iridium, of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .79mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine to triple broad stroke/line that varies between .51mm to 2.06mm when measured with digital calipers. I have to point out that this Sheaffer Nib writes smoothly. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This is a very Rare Oversize Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen due to the great color on the celluloid and the flexible Nib. I would grade this pen in Very Fine to Excellent Condition only due to the cap band wear which can be replated - otherwise, it would grade in excellent+ condition. The coloring of the barrel is in such immaculate condition and will be a prize for the new owner. Certainly, this fountain pen is collector grade and is ready to write with or just add to writing arsenal collection.
