For your consideration, we are proud to offer for sale this exceptional, fully restored circa 1935 Wahl Eversharp Doric in the highly coveted Burma Pearl celluloid, fitted with the remarkable 14K #7 Adjustable nib. A true first-generation Doric, produced during the model’s most celebrated period (1931–1935), this example captures the very essence of Wahl-Eversharp’s Art Deco innovation—both visually and mechanically.
This pen has been completely disassembled and meticulously restored with careful attention to both performance and preservation. The nib, feed, and section have been ultrasonically cleaned, and a new latex sac has been properly installed. The lever-filling system has been serviced, lightly lubricated, and tested to ensure smooth, reliable operation. The nickel-plated clip, wide cap band, and 14K nib have been gently hand-polished, presenting with a bright, attractive finish while retaining only the faintest, honest signs of age. The faceted cap and barrel have been carefully cleaned and polished to revive the remarkable depth and chatoyance of the Burma Pearl celluloid—bringing forward its luminous grey tones without compromising the integrity of the material.
Cosmetically, this Doric is outstanding. The cap and barrel are free from cracks, chips, teeth marks, or repairs, and the faceting remains crisp and well-defined. The threads are sharp, allowing the cap to seat securely and precisely. The original double-check mark seal remains intact and undisturbed—an important and often-missing detail. The nickel-plated clip retains strong color, and the wide cap band remains bright, showing only light surface wear consistent with careful use. The lever has been polished to a high shine, with only a faint trace of wear at the edge of the arm. The cap imprint, “EVERSHARP MADE IN U.S.A.,” is clean and clearly legible. There are no monograms or personalizations.
Measuring approximately 5 3/16 inches capped and 6 1/16 inches posted, and weighing just 0.54 ounces, the pen offers a perfectly balanced, comfortable presence in hand—substantial enough for confident writing, yet refined in feel.
At the heart of this Doric is its #7 Adjustable nib, one of the most innovative and desirable nib designs of the era. Crafted in 14K gold and designated as a Medium at rest (approximately 0.73mm), it delivers extraordinary versatility. With controlled pressure, the nib produces a fine line near 0.40mm and expands dramatically to approximately 1.59mm, offering expressive variation from delicate hairlines to bold, sweeping strokes. The writing sample provided was created with this very pen and demonstrates both its smoothness and responsiveness. A digital caliper was used to find the measurements of the nib and line variation.
The Burma Pearl finish stands as the most collectible and visually striking color in the Doric lineup—its layered grey tones and luminous depth perfectly complementing the pen’s iconic faceted design. The Doric itself remains one of the defining achievements of American fountain pen design, embodying the bold geometry and craftsmanship of the Art Deco era.
With its exceptional color, crisp details, freshly restored functionality, and highly sought-after adjustable nib, this example firmly qualifies as a collector-grade Doric in Excellent condition. Whether destined for a distinguished collection or to be enjoyed as a daily writer, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of Wahl Eversharp’s finest creations—restored correctly, performing beautifully, and ready for its next chapter.
