For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Fantastic Restored Circa 1938 Sheaffer Oversize Balance Fountain Pen in the Carmine Red Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, and barrel. Replaced the rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and 14K Gold 2-Tone NIB. I also cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy and to protect the celluloid of the fountain pen.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the White Dot with a gorgeous Gold Filled Clip that displays no gold fill loss. The Cap Banding displays a bright gold fill color but displays some top and bottom edge wear. The lever is in excellent condition with no gold fill loss. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO FORT MADISON, IOWA U.S.A. MADE IN U.S.A.". There are no monograms or personalizations either the cap or barrel. This Oversized Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

I have restored the filling system with a new rubber sac. I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should.

This Sheaffer has the 2-Tone 14K NIB. The actual writing portion, (the iridium), of the 14K Sheaffer NIB has a medium/broad point measuring roughly .62mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine to medium stroke/line measuring .56mm to .74mm when measured with digital calipers. The nib is very rigid but writes smoothly. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is a fabulous Oversize Sheaffer Balance Fountain Pen in the Carmine Red Celluloid that would grade in Very Fine Condition - if the cap banding did not have edge wear I would grade in Excellent+ to Near Mint. The coloring is fabulous with a beautiful two-tone nib. The Carmine Oversize Balance is a tough color to find and is commonly considered among collectors to be the 2nd hardest color and size to find behind Rose Glow. Certainly, this fountain pen is collector grade and is ready to write with or just add to writing arsenal collection.
