Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Hard to Acquire Restored 1942 Waterman Hundred Year Oversize with Blue Ribbed Cap & Barrel Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

In 1939 Waterman began manufacturing the 100 Year fountain pen to the public. The first year fountain pen came with the Cap Clip that went over the top of the cap, which this one is not - this is the 2nd iteration of the 3rd year version of the Waterman Hundred Fountain Pen.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman's Clip, Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 100 Year Semi-Flex NIB.

This fountain pen is made from Celluloid in Blue Ribbed color with clear end barrel - the cap and barrel look black but held to the light you will see the translucence come through (see image). The coloring is an amazing green color with no damage to either the cap or barrel. The back of the cap has the imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE MADE IN U.S.A. HUNDRED YEAR PEN". The cap and barrel ribbed are both ribbed and in excellent condition. There is no wear or brassing to any of the gold filled trim on this fountain pen. One very minor item to note is on the lever arm there is a pinhead nick out of the gold fill - very tiny but point it out for transparency sake.

This Waterman has been preserved handsomely and a wonderful example. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms on the cap or barrel. There is no crazing, cracks, nicks, or damage to either the cap or barrel. This Waterman Hundred Year is an Oversize size fountain pen that measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 1/4" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The lever is crisp and clean with no brassing. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully.

The NIB is the number 18 size Oversize 14K Waterman Hundred Year that is semi-flexible and writes smoothly. When measuring the actual tip of the NIB, it measures at .69mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .45mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a double broad stroke of 1.48mm with normal pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

Finding a Waterman Oversize Hundred Year Pen is elusive and finding one in this condition is extremely difficult. This Waterman Hundred Year Pen I would consider the condition to be in Excellent+ in the desirable Blue Ribbed celluloid. Certainly, this is a collector grade writing instrument.
