Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1955 Montblanc No 149 MEISTERSTUCK Fountain Pen with Silver Cap Band Rings. This fountain pen has been cleaned internally, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

This Montblanc has the ebonite grooved feed, single unit barrel construction and telescoping - no thread filler unit. The cap has the two thin silver rings with the center gold filled ring. We can date this pen to circa 1955 to 1960 and consider one of the classical early Montblanc 149s that are cherished by collectors.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the gorgeous Gold Filled Clip and Cap Banding which display absolutely no brassing. The cap banding is stamped with, "MONTBLANC MIESTERSTUCK". The blind cap filler knob is stamped with "149". The barrel has an excellent visualated window with linear horizontal striation with the transparency of the ink-view clear, albeit with mild ambering. There are no monograms or personalizations on the cap or barrel. This Montblanc 149 Fountain Pen measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 1/2" posted.

The filling unit has been restored to original operating standards. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills and expels as it should. The Piston Filling System works as it was intended to do and effortlessly.

The Montblanc NIB is a 14Ct/585 Tri-Color style. This Nib writes very smoothly with moderate flexibility. This 14Ct Montblanc NIB has a fine tip/point measuring roughly 0.49mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a medium to double broad stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has the medium to broad stroke measuring at .64mm and the double broad stroke measures at 1.52mm under medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton cloth that I used to polish/clean the barrel and cap.

This is the "Holy Grail" of Montblanc No. 149 Fountain Pens due to the Silver Ring Cap Banding. I would grade this writing instrument in Excellent. It is ready to write or just add to writing arsenal collection.
