Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Fabulous Restored Circa 1956 Conway Stewart Fountain Pen in the Red Herringbone Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

This fountain pen is made from celluloid in the red herringbone pattern. The coloring on the cap and barrel really displays fabulously. The barrel imprint at the center of the barrel is clean and reads, "CONWAY STEWART 85L MADE IN ENGLAND".

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap. Cleaned, Buffed, Polished, and Waxed the outside of the cap and barrel to bring back the vibrancy of the material and to protect the celluloid. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, rubber sac. Hand polished the Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding, and Lever Box Assembly along with the 14Ct NIB. All the gold filled trim displays well - I do not see any brassing. There are no personalizations or monograms either the cap or the barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the celluloid. This Conway Stewart 85L measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills as it was originally intended to.

This Conway Stewart 14Ct nib has some great flexibility all while writing smoothly. When measuring the actual tip of the NIB, it measures at .80mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring roughly .64mm with very light pressure and flexes up to a triple broad+ stroke of 1.88mm with medium pressure. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. This nib writes smoothly with a wet line. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This vintage Conway Stewart Fountain Pen is a harder to find color in the Red Herringbone Celluloid. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to be very fine to excellent condition. A fantastic collector grade addition to your writing arsenal collection.
