CIRCA 1959 SHEAFFER PFM III 14K STUB NIB BLACK FOUNTAIN PEN NEAR MINT CONDITION

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this vintage circa 1959 Sheaffer PFM III Black Snorkel Fountain Pen fitted with a 14K Stub nib. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and now is in fabulous operating and writing condition.

The PFM came in five principal models, varying by cap and trim color. What we have here is the PFM III. The PFM models are below for your reference:

PFM I - Single color plastic cap and barrel, polished stainless steel clip and cap band, and palladium silver nib. The PFM I is the only model without the White Dot.

PFM II - Frosted stainless steel cap and plastic barrel, polished stainless steel clip and cap band, and palladium silver nib.

PFM III - Single color plastic cap and barrel, gold-filled clip and cap band, and a 14kt gold nib.

PFM IV - Stainless steel cap and plastic barrel, gold-filled clip and plunger cap endplate, and a 14kt gold nib.

PFM V - Gold plated cap and plastic barrel, gold-filled clip and plunger cap endplate, and a 14kt gold nib.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs. There are no monograms or personalizations on either the cap or barrel of the fountain pen. The fountain pen cap  is stamped with, "SHEAFFER Made in U.S.A." This Sheaffer PFM I measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 5 5/8" posted.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks, or repairs. There are no monograms on the barrel. The barrel has the original chalk markings. The cap is stamped with, "SHEAFFER'S MADE IN U.S.A." This Sheaffer PFM III measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 5 5/8" posted.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, section, and feed. I have hand-polished the cap, gold-filled clip, and 14K Stub Nib. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel, cap, and blind cap to bring back the vibrancy and protect the material of the fountain pen. I installed a new rubber sac, o-ring, and point seal - all replaced with correct reproduction parts. This Sheaffer Pen has been disassembled, cleaned, and inspected for defects before reassembling.

Here is where this PFM shines! This PFM III model comes with the Sheaffer 14K gold inlay NIB which has the "tough-to-find" Stub nib point. The iridium of the nib measures roughly 1.20mm when measured with digital calipers or a Broad/Double Broad point. The NIB writes with an Extra Fine to Broad/Double Broad line variation. In the writing sample provided, the line variations measure from .43mm on the horizontal strokes to 1.22mm on the down strokes when measuring with digital calipers. The nib performs very smoothly when creating the writing sample. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Blue Ink.

The PFM has the Snorkel Touchdown Filling System. We replaced the point seal, o-ring, and added a new rubber sac. The snorkel tube moves freely and the Touchdown filling system draws ink as it should. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and filling as it should. 

This Sheaffer PFM III is hard to find with a Stub nib in this condition which is near mint condition. This PFM is ready to write with or just add it to your writing arsenal collection!
