For your consideration, we are offering for sale this lovely Restored 1920s Waterman #54 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with Flex Nib. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Cap Banding, Gold Filled Waterman Clip, Gold Filled Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #4 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the Red Ripple pattern. The coloring is gorgeous displaying deep red and black coloring. The Waterman Ideal Clip displays no wear of the gold-filled material and has been polished to shine brightly. The gold-filled cap banding is perfect with no wear, again polished to a bright shine. The lever box assembly displays a crisp imprint of the "IDEAL" globe on the lever but does display gold-filled wear on the arm and on the top and bottom edges of the Ideal end of the lever. This Waterman 54 barrel has a great imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has a crisp number "54" imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalization to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #54 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted.

The lever and box assembly has been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to.

This Waterman has a 14K Gold WATERMAN IDEAL #4 Flex Nib. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .76mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with an Extra Fine to Triple Broad stroke/line variation. The extra-fine line measures roughly .42mm with light pressure on the horizontal strokes and the triple broad strokes measure at 2.28mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This antique Waterman #54 Red Ripple Hard Rubber Fountain Pen has a wonderful Flex Nib that collectors desire. I would consider the condition, color, trim, and stub nib of this fountain pen to grade in Very Fine to Excellent condition. This Waterman #52 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition or add it to your writing arsenal collection.
