Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Rare Circa 1910 Waterman 18K Gold Filled Chased Filigree Overlay Eyedropper Fountain Pen w/Box. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB and feed. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel, cap, and section with mineral oil. Hand polished the 18 Carat Gold Filled Chased Filigree Overlay and Waterman Ideal New York 14K #4 NIB. The 18 Carat Gold Filled Chased Filigree Overlay is a wonderful condition with no damage. There is some very light scratching that I would consider below normal wear for the age of the pen. This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with the 18K Gold Filled Chased Filigree gold overlay that is extremely scarce to acquire. The edge of the barrel overlay is stamped clearly with, "WATERMAN'S IDEAL FOUNTAIN PEN". The black hard rubber under the overlay displays very little oxidation and displays a lovely black color. The cap is a slip type cap and secures to the barrel easily. The end of the cap and barrel are "domed" which is an indicated of the early Waterman design. The fountain pen cap does not display a pocket clip and there is no indication that it ever came with one. There is a monogram in the cartouche area of the barrel that reads "M.A.P. to P.A.D.". This Waterman 0514 measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.

This Waterman 0514 has a 14K Ideal New York #4 Flexible Nib. The tip/point of the Nib/iridium has a fine point measuring .53mm when measured with digital calipers. The Nib flexes from a medium (.64mm) line to a triple broad (2.22mm) stroke/line when measured with digital calipers under medium pressure. This #4 nib still retains iridium and write pretty well - it has a hint of scratchiness on the right upward stroke with pressure if you are light with touch you do not experience it. I feel I have done a reasonably good job at smoothing the nib out as best as possible. The writing sample in the images was produced from the actual pen that is listed for sale by dipping the Nib in Parker Blue Quink Ink.

The very top of the cap, on the filigree, displays a scratch and a very shallow ding. I point this out for clarity/transparency sake and not noticeable to my naked eye.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

Comes with a period Purple Velvet Box which is in excellent condition for its age.

This 0514 Waterman is a very rare writing instrument in the Gold Filled Chased Filigree Design. I would grade this Waterman in excellent+ condition. This Waterman is ready to write with or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
