Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1923 to 1925 Parker Senior Duofold Fountain Pen in Red Hard Rubber with a large DUOFOLD imprint. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, put back together, and is now in excellent writing condition.

NOTE: The "LARGE" (not to be confused with the "Giant" imprint) imprint was used from June 1923 through sometime in 1925. This example has the rarer wide "Banner" (scroll, containing the words "Lucky Curve"). The significance of this particular Parker Duofold, for those who do not know, is the material being red hard rubber and having the large "DUOFOLD" imprint.

The fountain pen cap, barrel, and blind cap are in great condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The Cap has a gold-filled Parker Clip with PAT SEP 5 - 16 stamped and has been polished to shine bright with only the slightest wear on the ball of the clip and around the top of the clip near the sides of the patent date. The raised (or some call it the golden girdle) single cap band displays no gold fill wear. The barrel is clearly stamped with, "Large DUOFOLD imprint along with GEO. S. PARKER FOUNTAIN PEN JANESVILLE WIS. U.S.A. LUCKY CURVE PAT. 4-25-11".  There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel. The cap and barrel display wonderful color but if I had to say the thread area is maybe a shade darker than the barrel - it is really tough to notice it in the images. This Parker Duofold is the Senior Size and measures 5 1/2" capped and 6 1/2" posted.

This Duofold has a Button Filler mechanism and has been tested with water and fills as it should. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to and smoothly.

The Parker NIB is 14K and stamped, "PARKER DUOFOLD PEN". The actual writing portion (iridium tip) of the 14K Parker NIB has a Medium point measuring roughly .68mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a fine/medium to broad stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the fine/medium line measures at .59mm and will range to a broad line measuring 1.02mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Blue Ink.

This Parker Duofold is of simple design, yet, very significant due to the hard rubber material, large imprint, and how early this fountain pen is. I would consider the condition of this Parker Duofold to be in Excellent+ Condition. It is a spectacular writing collectible and certainly a significant fountain pen that would make for a "holy grail" addition to one's writing arsenal collection.
