This Montblanc has the split ebonite feed with horizontal combs, 14C bi-color Nib, has single-unit barrel construction and black plastic filler mechanism. The cap clip ring banding is stamped, "Germany". We can date this Montblanc 149 between 1973 to 1984.
This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, teeth marks or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the gorgeous Gold Filled Clip and Cap Banding which display absolutely no brassing or wear. The cap banding is stamped with, "MONTBLANC MIESTERSTUCK No 149". The transparency of the ink-view window is "Water Clear". I have cleaned, buffed, polished, and waxed the cap and barrel. I also cleaned the internal components of this pen. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the barrel or cap. This Montblanc 149 Fountain Pen measures 5 3/4" in length capped and 6 5/8" posted.
I have tested the piston filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Piston Filling System works as it was intended and effortlessly.
The Montblanc NIB is a 14C/585 Bi-Color Semi-Flexible NIB. The 14C Montblanc NIB has a fine point measuring roughly 0.50mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a very smooth stroke that performs with an extra fine to broad stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has the extra fine stroke measuring at .44mm and the broad stroke measures roughly .92mm when measured with digital calipers. This NIB writes extremely smooth and such a pleasure to write with. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton cloth that I used to polish/clean the barrel and cap.
This Montblanc 149 comes with the original box and papers which all are in excellent condition.
This is a wonderful example of the iconic Montblanc No. 149 Fountain Pen. It is in impeccable condition and I would grade this fine writing instrument in Excellent+ to Near Mint Condition. It is ready to write or just add to writing arsenal collection.
