Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1930 Carter's Oversized Streamlined Fountain Pen in this clean and scarce Jade Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, ultrasonically cleaned, put back together, and is now in wonderful writing condition. The color is exceptional and this is one of the Holy Grail fountain pens for a Carter's collector.

I have cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Replaced the rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the gold-filled Carter's clip, lever-filling arm, and 2-ring barrel banding. I cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of the fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. The center of the barrel has a really clean imprint that reads, "CARTER'S PATENTED THE CARTER'S INK CO. BOSTON-NEW YORK-CHICAGO". This Carter's Fountain Pen is an Oversized Streamline model that measures 5 1/2" inches capped and 6 7/8" posted.

The fountain pen cap and barrel are in exceptional condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. This Jade color is exceptional with vibrant jade coloring! The top of the cap where the single gold ring is, just under that ring shows a hint of darkening due to the black top end showing through the Jade celluloid. The threads on the barrel display just a hint of darkening on the barrel which is very minor and doesn't show up in the images but point it out for clarity sake. The clip on the cap displays brightly with a tiny bit of wear on the ball area and the edging where "CARTER'S" is imprinted on the clip. The 2-Ring Cap Banding displays brightly as well with a small area in the lower ring, opposite side of the clip that shows minor wear. The gold-filled lever is very clean and displays bright gold-filled color. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel.

I have tested the lever-filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to and smoothly.

This Carter's has the 14K INX Nib and generates a great writing experience. The actual writing portion of the 14K Carter NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .58mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with an Extra Fine to Double Broad stroke/line. In the writing sample provided, the extra fine line measures .41mm, and the double broad measures 1.59mm when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue-Black Ink.

Carter was a well-known maker of fountain pen ink, but made fountain pens only for a few years, from the mid-1920s to around the early 1930s. It offered very high-quality pens, highly sought today by those who want top-tier pens by small makers.

This vintage Carter's Fountain Pen is a very clean and scarce example of the Streamline Jade pattern. Carter's made fountain pens from 1924 to 1932 I would consider this Carter to easily grade in Excellent Condition. It is a collector grade that one will rarely find the opportunity to own. It is ready to write or just add it to your writing arsenal collection!
