Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Near Mint in the Box 1992 Patron of the Art Series Montblanc Lorenzo de Medici Fountain Pen Limited Edition 790/4810. This pen comes with the original wooden lacquered box and Montblanc International Service Documentation and Warranty card. The Montblanc is fitted with an 18K Medium (.82mm) nib.

NOTE: This is the first of Mont Blanc’s famed 4810 Patron of Art Limited Edition series. The Lorenzo de Medici Patron of Art Edition commemorates an era where art and craftsmanship were intricately linked. The 925 sterling silver barrel, with its eight sides, is adorned with intricate engravings by eight master craftsmen - in this case, we have "HP" engraved initials. It’s well known, among advanced Montblanc collectors, that Lorenzo’s project involved 6 (some say 8) engravers. They signed the barrel using their initials (HP, R, ZH, JB, BO, VK).  This beautifully crafted barrel, paired with a delicately engraved nib featuring a heart-shaped hole, makes for a stunning piece of jewelry that doubles as a remarkable writing instrument.

The cap and barrel are in perfect condition with no cracks, nicks, dings, dents, or repairs. The cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. The sterling silver trim is excellent and has been polished to shine brightly. The cap is stamped below the clip, "MONTBLANC GERMANY" and the right side panel is stamped with, "0790/4810, 925, StØD, and sterling hallmarks". The fountain pen measures 5 1/2" capped and 6 7/8" posted. This is a Limited Edition Montblanc with a production number of 790 out of 4810. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel.

This Montblanc fountain pen uses a piston filling system and I have tested it with water and works as it was designed to. I cleaned the inside of the barrel and greased the piston for smooth operation. The piston filler is the brass type, not plastic.

This fountain pen features an 18-karat two-tone medium nib. The nib is labeled "4810, 18K/750, Montblanc Logo, and MONTBLANC" and is considered a MEDIUM point, measuring .82mm with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine to a broad stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has a fine stroke measuring at .55mm and flexes up to a broad stroke at 1.12mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Black Ink.

Accompanying this fountain pen is the original wooden Montblanc lacquered box, International Service Certificate, and Limited Edition Literature/Booklet.

Although the last direct descendant of the Medici house died centuries ago, the name of this aristocratic family from Florence is still evocative of a dynasty that lasted over generations and which, with its influence on culture and the fine arts, has a permanent place in the history books.

This Fountain Pen from Montblanc, paying homage to Lorenzo de Medici, is a stunning writing instrument that was crafted in Germany. The fountain pen has been inked but displays no wear. This will be a fabulous writer for someone who appreciates the Patron of the Art collection and loves the feel of sterling hand-engraved overlay design.
