Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Near Mint in the Box 1994 Patron of the Art Series Montblanc Louis XIV Fountain Pen Limited Edition 433/4810. This pen comes with the original wooden lacquered box and Montblanc Documentation/Literature. This Montblanc is fitted with an 18K Medium (.70mm) nib.

NOTE: This Montblanc Patron of Art, Louis XIV, displays delicate splendor and extravagant detail as this model recalls the interior decoration of the rooms and salons of Versailles, the court of the Sun King. The fine barrel made of vermeil – gold-plated 925 sterling silver – is encircled with a delicate flower pattern, inspired by the world-famous gardens of Versailles.

The cap and barrel are in perfect condition with no cracks, nicks, dings, dents, or repairs. The cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. The vermeil sterling silver overlay is excellent and has been polished to shine brightly. The cap clip is stamped with, "Montblanc". The cap is stamped on the left side with, "GERMANY 0433/4810, 925, StØD, and sterling balance scale and the duck hallmarks". The fountain pen measures 5 5/8" capped and 6 3/8" posted. This is a Limited Edition Montblanc with a production number of 433 out of 4810. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel.

This Montblanc fountain pen uses a piston filling system and I have tested it with water and works as it was designed to. I cleaned the inside of the barrel and greased the piston for smooth operation. The piston filler is the brass type, not plastic.

This fountain pen features an 18-karat two-tone medium nib. The hand-cut nib in 18K gold is captivating because of its carved heart-shaped hole and the delicately engraved bows, a typical fashion accessory in the court of the Sun King. The nib is stamped "4810, 18K/750, Montblanc Logo, 1994, and MONTBLANC" and is considered a MEDIUM point, measuring .70mm with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a fine to a broad stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has a fine stroke measuring at .52mm and flexes up to a broad stroke at 1.24mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Montblanc Black Ink.

Accompanying this fountain pen is the original wooden Montblanc lacquered box and Montblanc Literature/Booklet. The literature shows the stamp of Bertram's Inkwell in Baltimore, MD where the pen was purchased.

Louis XIV - the “dieudonné”, or “gift from God”. The Sun King is a historically controversial figure, but he is also universally recognized for his appreciation of the fine arts. Louis XIV founded numerous leading European cultural academies, took a personal interest in promising, talented artists, and created an edifice that will always be associated with his name - the Palace of Versailles.

This Fountain Pen from Montblanc, paying homage to Louis XIV, is a stunning writing instrument that was crafted in Germany. The fountain pen has been inked but gently used. I would consider this fountain pen in Excellent+ condition. This will be a fabulous writer for someone who appreciates the Patron of the Art collection and loves the feel of sterling hand-engraved overlay design.
