Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this recently restored Circa 1973-1980 Montblanc No. 146 MEISTERSTUCK Fountain Pen in Near Mint Condition. This fountain pen has been cleaned internally, put back together, and now is in wonderful writing condition.

This Montblanc has the proper ebonite rounded feed, 14K Monotone Nib, single-unit barrel construction, Blue Gray Clear Ink-Window, and black plastic filler mechanism. The cap clip ring banding is stamped, "Germany". We can date this Montblanc 146 between 1973 to 1980.

This fountain pen cap and barrel are in magnificent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. The cap has the gorgeous Gold Filled Clip and Cap Banding which display absolutely no wear. The cap banding is stamped with, "MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK No 146". The transparency of the ink-view window is "Water Clear". I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the cap and barrel. I also cleaned the internal components of this pen and greased the piston filler to work smoothly. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the barrel or cap. This Montblanc 146 Fountain Pen measures 5 5/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

I have greased and tested the piston filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The Piston Filling System works as it was intended and effortlessly.

The Montblanc NIB is a 14K/585 Monotone Semi-Flexible NIB. The 14K Montblanc NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .52mm when measured with digital calipers. When creating a writing sample, the NIB writes with a smooth stroke that performs with a fine to medium stroke/line. The writing sample provided in the image has a fine stroke measuring at .49mm and the medium stroke measures roughly .74mm when measured with digital calipers under firm pressure. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

This is a wonderful example of the iconic Montblanc No. 146 Fountain Pen from the 1970s. These vintage Montblanc Fountain Pens are becoming increasingly more collectible and certainly harder to find. I would grade this fine writing instrument in Near Mint Condition. It is ready to write with or just add it to your writing arsenal collection.
