Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Never Inked Limited Edition Montblanc Max von Oppenheim Sterling Silver Fountain Pen from the 2009 Patron of the Art Series. This particular pen is limited edition number 3817 out of 4810. This pen comes with the original boxes, Montblanc Literature, and International Service Certificate. This fountain pen has never been inked, is considered New Old Stock, and is in Mint Condition fitted with an 18K (.88mm) medium nib.

NOTE: The Limited Edition Max von Oppenheim Fountain Pen captures the essence of the Orient that has captivated Oppenheim since childhood. Its intricate ornamentation draws inspiration from the unique architectural style of mosques found in the region. The barrel features black lacquer inlays made on the sterling silver, reminiscent of the intricate decorations and frescoes of the Middle East. The fountain pen's gold-plated rings also recall the intricate designs and reliefs of Tell Halaf, an archaeological site that Oppenheim frequented. The limited edition Patron of Art Max von Oppenheim is adorned with the emblematic white ivory-colored Montblanc emblem and a finely engraved Bedouin motif on its rhodium-plated 18 K gold nib. This Montblanc is a limited edition "3817 of 4810."

The cap and barrel are in perfect condition with no cracks, nicks, dings, dents, or repairs. The cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. The 18K gold plate ring designs are beautiful and very detailed. The fountain pen is marked on the side of the cap with, "3817 / 4810". Also, the 925 "sterling" hallmarks are stamped on the section. The fountain pen measures 5 7/8" capped - it is not meant to be posted. It weighs 2.57 ounces.

This Montblanc fountain pen uses a piston filling system and I have tested it with water and works as it was designed to. I have cleaned the inside of the barrel and greased the piston for smooth operation. There were no signs of ink inside the barrel or the nib - this is how I came to the conclusion the fountain pen had never been inked.

This fountain pen features an 18K medium nib which matches the Medium nib sticker on the end of the barrel. The nib is engraved with a camel – a reminder of Oppenheim’s life as a Bedouin during his explorations. The nib is labeled "4810, 18K/750, Montblanc Logo, 2009, MONTBLANC" and is considered a MEDIUM point, measuring .88mm with digital calipers. The pen has never been used with ink to preserve its pristine condition for the next owner or collector.

This Montblanc comes in the original Montblanc wooden lacquered box, both outer boxes, and the International Service Certificate. The plastic sheath with the pen inside has been opened. The fountain pen was purchase back 2009 at the Dallas Montblanc Boutique store

The Montblanc 2009 Patron of the Arts series is worth exploring, dedicated to the ancient historian and archaeologist Max Freiherr von Oppenheim (1860-1946). Despite his family's banking background, Oppenheim left his diplomatic career to finance his own excavations at Tell-Halaf in northern Syria between 1911-13 and 1929. He accumulated an extensive personal collection and created the "Max Freiherr von Oppenheim Stiftung," which actively supports ongoing archaeological research and cultural preservation in the Near East.

The limited-edition fountain pen is a beautiful tribute to Oppenheim's adventurous spirit, reflecting his legacy through every detail of its elegant design. The fountain pen has never been inked and displays no wear. I consider this fountain pen in New Old Stock, Never Inked, Mint condition. This will be a fabulous writer for someone who appreciates the Patron of the Art collection and loves detailed craftsmanship in their fountain pens.
