Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Very Rare 1946 Parker 51 Fountain Pen & Pencil set with the 14K Solid Gold "Heirloom" caps in the Fishscale pattern in Jet Black Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, ultrasonically cleaned and put back together and is now in wonderful writing condition.

This set is all correct with the 14K caps, 14K Clips, 14K Blind Cap Tassie, and 14K Pencil Cone. Absolutely perfect are all the 14K gold trim areas on this set.

I have ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, collector, hood, and breather tube. Replaced the old rubber diaphragm with a new one. This Parker 51 fountain pen measures 5 3/8" in length capped and 6" posted. The pencil measures 5 1/8" in length.

The fountain pen cap, barrel, and hood are in near mint condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The caps are PERFECT with very crisp fishscale pattern and no dings, dents, or scratches. The barrels are very clean, again with no damage, nicks, scratches or repairs. The set has the plastic pearlized jewels that have a high shine. The clutch ring retains the gold wash centering. The caps are stamped with, "14K GOLD MADE IN U.S.A.". The barrel is stamped with, PARKER 51 MADE IN THE U.S.A. with a date 6 (for 1946) in the 3rd Quarter". There are no monograms or personalizations to the barrel. The cap lip on both the pen and pencil does display the initials, "R.L.". The initials are small and do not diminish the overall appearance of this ultra-rare set.

The Vacumatic Filling System has been completely restored and works wonderfully. When testing the Filling System with water - roughly 5-7 presses and the filling unit will nearly fill. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to and without issue.

The actual writing portion of the 14K Parker NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .55mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with a medium line of approximately at .64mm when measuring with digital calipers. This Nib writes very smoothly. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap. The set comes in the original Parker 51 display box that I would consider to be in average condition.

I have to say this Parker 51 set with Heirloom Fishscale Caps are incredible - if you are a Parker 51 collector, it is a must have set for your collection. I would consider this set in Near Mint Condition - it would be Mint Condition if it were not for the R.L. initials on the cap lip. Retail for this set should be around $2800-$3000 in this near mint type of condition - even with the small initials on the cap lip I am pricing this set fairly. This is a HOLY GRAIL type Parker 51 set - it is ready to write or just add to your prized writing arsenal collection.
