Dante Alighieri, often referred to as “the Supreme Poet,” was born in 1265 in Florence, Italy. He was a prominent poet, writer, and politician during the Middle Ages and is regarded as the father of the Italian language. His most famous work, *The Divine Comedy*, is considered the greatest literary masterpiece composed in Italian during that period and is highly esteemed worldwide. Originally titled *Comedia*, it was later named *Divina* by Giovanni Boccaccio.
Dante is often depicted with a laurel crown, a significant Latin iconographic symbol representing scholars and poets. *The Divine Comedy* is divided into three parts: *Inferno* (Hell), *Purgatorio* (Purgatory), and *Paradiso* (Paradise).
*Inferno*, the first part of *The Divine Comedy*, consists of 34 cantos (including one introductory canto), with each canto further divided into lines. This work is listed among “The 100 Best Books Ever” and is regarded by some as the greatest masterpiece in literature. It is well-known and studied globally, making it one of Dante’s most important contributions to literature and a significant work of the Middle Ages.
