Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Gorgeous Restored Circa 1925 Waterman #552 1/2 L.E.C. (Lower End Covered) 14K Solid Gold Basketweave Overlay Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned, and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned, buffed, and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new silicone sac. Hand polished the 14K Solid Gold Waterman IDEAL Clip, 14K Cap, 14K Barrel, and 14K Lever Box Assembly along with the Waterman 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with 14K Solid Gold (not plated) Overlay which is a Basketweave pattern. The Overlay is stamped with, WATERMAN'S MADE IN U.S.A. and 14K on bother Cap and Barrel". The 14K gold overlay displaying very little use displaying no scratching. The lever is crisp and clean with "IDEAL" on the lever easily seen with the naked eye. The Waterman Ideal Clip-Cap displays absolutely no wear. All 14K Solid Gold trim has been polished to shine brightly. This Waterman 552 1/2 L.E.C. butt end of the fountain pen has a clean number "552 1/2 L.E.C." imprint. The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or the barrel. There are no cracks or repairs to the hard rubber or 14K gold overlay. This Waterman #552 1/2 L.E.C. measures 5 1/8" in length capped and 6 3/8" posted.

The 14K lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. I have tested the lever filling systems with water and works flawlessly and as it was originally intended to. The underside of the lever is stamped "14K".

This Waterman has a smooth #2 WATERMAN IDEAL Flex Nib that is a pleasure to write with. The iridium tipping is in excellent condition with the point measuring .76mm when measured with digital calipers - a medium nib point. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a double extra-fine line measuring roughly .33mm on the horizontal strokes and flexes to a double broad 1.66mm with medium to firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This antique Waterman #552 1/2 L.E.C. 14K Solid Gold Fountain Pen is not an easy example to find clean. I would consider the condition of this fountain pen to grade in Excellent+ to Near Mint condition. This is a Collector's Holy Grail dream pen in terms of condition and how smooth it writes. A fabulous example to add to one's writing arsenal collection.
