Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1918 Waterman 12 1/2 Hard Rubber Eyedropper Fountain Pen with Sterling Silver Overlay. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Hand polished the Sterling Waterman Ideal Cap & Clip, Barrel and the Waterman's Ideal New York 14K #2 Flexible NIB.

This fountain pen is made from black hard rubber with Sterling Silver Overlay. The sterling overlay on the barrel is stamped with, "WATERMAN'S IDEAL FOUNTAIN PEN STERLING". The butt end imprint of the fountain pen has worn away.

The cap is a slip type cap that slides onto the barrel. The section is threaded and will unscrew and screw in tightly to the barrel. There is a monogram on the barrel cartouche area that has the initial, "B" in old script. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber barrel. The sterling overlay looks beautiful, with some light scratching that commensurates with the age of the pen. This Waterman 12 1/2 measures 5 1/4" in length capped and 6 7/8" posted.

The NIB is a 14K #2 Waterman Ideal New York Imprint Flexible NIB. This NIB is pretty smooth and is very fun to write with. When measuring the actual tip of the NIB, it measured at .81mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .56mm with very light pressure on the horizontal lines and flexes up to a triple broad stroke+ of approximately 2.20 with medium to firm pressure, I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is a wonderful antique Waterman's Eyedropper 12 1/2 Fountain Pen that is in ready to write condition. I would grade this Waterman 12 1/2 in very fine to excellent condition. A superb writing instrument to add to your writing arsenal collection!
