Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this Lovely Restored 1920s Waterman's 52 Red Wood Grain Hard Rubber Fountain Pen with 18K Gold Filled Trim. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

Ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed and section. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Cleaned and polished the outside of the cap and barrel. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly size, #16 rubber sac. Hand polished the 18K Gold Filled Clip, Cap Banding and 18K Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Ideal 14K #2 NIB.

This fountain pen is made from hard rubber in the red wood grain design. I would say the coloring is an amazing red and black color, which displays very vibrantly. The barrel has a very faint imprint at the center of the barrel that reads, "WATERMAN'S REG. U.S. IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFFICE FOUNTAIN PEN". The butt end of the fountain pen has the 52 imprint.

The threads on the cap and barrel are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman 52 measures 5 5/16" in length capped and 6 3/4" posted.

The lever and box assembly have been cleaned and oiled. It works flawlessly and smoothly. The Globe and Ideal imprint on the lever does display brassing on the bar and Ideal Globe portion. The 18K Gold Filled Ideal Clip Cap displays some normal brassing on the ball of the clip. The cap banding also displays some brassing on the upper portion of the banding.

When measuring the actual tip of the 14K Ideal New York NIB, it measured at .71mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a fine line measuring roughly .43mm with very light pressure (on the horizontal stroke) and flexes up to 2.46mm (see image) with normal to medium pressure; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and fills wonderfully. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is antique Waterman's 52 Fountain Pen is in ready to write condition using the incredible flexible NIB. I would consider the condition of this fountain in fine condition and certainly a great user grade writing instrument to add to your arsenal.
