Description

For your consideration we are offering for sale this 1940s Waterman 100 Year Fountain Pen in a Burgundy Celluloid color. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition.

I ultrasonically cleaned the NIB, feed, section, barrel and cap. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel and cap with mineral oil. Replaced the old rubber sac with a new, properly sized #18 rubber sac. Hand polished and oiled the Gold Filled Ideal Lever Box Assembly along with the Polishing Waterman Hundred Year #18 NIB. There is no brassing on the gold filled Waterman clip. The cap banding doesn't appear to show wear, I believe the gold filled banding was lacquered to keep the gold filled shine and is now wearing out. The cap does not have any chips, cracks or repairs. The barrel & cap threads are excellent with the cap always securing tightly. There are no monograms on the barrel. This Waterman is an oversize model and measures 5 3/16" inches in length capped and 6 3/16" inches posted.

This fountain pen celluloid is made in the burgundy or red coloring and, in my opinion, fantastic coloring. The cap imprint is crisp and reads, "WATERMAN'S REG U.S. WATERMAN'S IDEAL GLOBE LOGO PAT. OFF. MADE IN U.S.A. FOUNTAIN PEN". The buttend of the pen does not show and cracking or brittleness. The lever box assembly has been cleaned and oil, it is working as it should and displays no brassing.

The Hundred Year NIB is a #18 and has a medium point measuring roughly .84mm, measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with the NIB, it writes with a fine line measuring roughly .46mm on the finest horizontal line with light pressure and flexes up to a triple broad stroke and beyond at roughly 3.27mm with medium pressure in the writing sample; I didn't want to overextend the NIB's capabilities but it is a very flexible, wet noodle type NIB. The NIB is very responsive and flexes very easily with little to normal pressure under my writing conditions.

The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that is listed for sale. I have tested the filling mechanism with water and ink before this listing and fills as it should. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Black Ink.

Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.

This is a Gorgeous Waterman 100 Year Fountain Pen that is in ready to write condition using this great flexible NIB. This should grade at fine condition and really is one for the collector instrument collection, as it is a marvelous example.
