Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1930s Carter's Streamlined Fountain Pen in this uncommon Grey Pearl Striated Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, ultrasonically cleaned, put back together, and is now back in superb writing condition.

I have cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. I replaced the rubber sac with a new latex sac. I hand polished the gold-filled Carter's rocker clip, lever arm, and 2-ring barrel banding. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of the fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Carter's Fountain Pen is a Streamline Standard Size model that measures 5 1/8" inches capped and 6 3/8" posted.

The fountain pen cap and barrel are in exceptional condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. This striated grey pearl celluloid is uncommon, I haven't seen this pattern in this color in any catalogs I have access to but the clip and design date it to the early 1903s. The clip on the cap displays brightly - there is a small amount of wear in the right edging/side. The 2-Ring Cap Banding displays brightly as well with some minor wear. The gold-filled lever is very clean and has been polished and it has just some very minor wear on the right edging. Overall the gold-filled trim is excellent but I point out those flaws, albeit, very small. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel.

I have tested the lever-filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to and smoothly.

This Carter's INX NIB is a 14K Nib that generates a great writing experience. The actual writing portion (iridium) of the 14K Carter Inx NIB has a fine point measuring roughly .55mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with an Extra Fine to Double Broad stroke/line variation. In the writing sample provided, the extra-fine line measures at .35mm with very light pressure, and the double broad measures 1.30mm with firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Carter was a well-known maker of fountain pen ink, but made fountain pens only for a few years, from 1924 to around 1937. It offered very high-quality pens, highly sought today by those who want top-tier pens by small makers.

This vintage Carter's Fountain Pen is a very clean and scarce example of the Streamline Striated pattern. I would consider this Carter's Fountain Pen to grade in Excellent Condition. It is a collector grade that one will rarely find the opportunity to own. It is ready to write or just add it to your writing arsenal collection!
