Description

For your consideration, we are offering for sale this Restored Circa 1930s Carter's Streamlined Fountain Pen in the Mottled Red Celluloid. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, ultrasonically cleaned, put back together, and is now back in superb writing condition.

I have cleaned the NIB, feed, and section. I replaced the rubber sac with a new sac. Hand polished the gold-filled Carter's rocker clip, lever arm, and 2-ring barrel banding. I have cleaned, buffed, and polished the barrel and cap to bring back the vibrancy of the fountain pen and to protect the celluloid. This Carter's Fountain Pen is a Streamline Standard Size model that measures 5 1/8" inches capped and 6 3/8" posted.

The fountain pen cap and barrel are in exceptional condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. This Mottled Red color is uncompromised and displays nearly like the day it left the factory - brilliant and clean red and black coloring! The clip on the cap displays brightly with no wear or brassing. The 2-Ring Cap Banding displays brightly as well with no gold-filled loss. The gold-filled lever is very clean, displays bright gold-filled color and is free from any wear or brassing. There are no monograms or personalizations to either the cap or barrel.

I have tested the lever filling mechanism with water and fills as it should. The filling unit operates as it was originally intended to and smoothly.

This Carter's INX NIB is a 14K Nib that generates a great writing experience. The actual writing portion (iridium) of the 14K Carter Inx NIB has a medium point measuring roughly .85mm when measured with digital calipers. When writing a sample with this NIB, it writes with an Extra Fine to Triple Broad stroke line. In the writing sample provided, the extra-fine line measures at .41mm with very light pressure and the triple broad measures 1.82mm with firm pressure when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.

Carter was a well-known maker of fountain pen ink, but made fountain pens only for a few years, from 1924 to around the early 1932. It offered very high-quality pens, highly sought today by those who want top-tier pens by small makers.

This vintage Carter's Fountain Pen is a very clean and scarce example of the Streamline Mottled Red pattern. I would consider this Carter's Fountain Pen to easily grade in Excellent plus Condition. It is a collector grade that one will rarely find the opportunity to own. It is ready to write or just add it to your writing arsenal collection!
